Innovative technology enhances virtual walk-through experience

The Sydney Metro City & Southwest Line-Wide Works team is trialling new technology that tracks progress and builds virtual walk-throughs in real-time. The program uses 360° cameras, computer vision and artificial intelligence to capture a complete visual record of each job site and then shares it via the cloud.

Team members walk around the job site with a 360°camera mounted to their hard hat, capturing their entire walkthrough and uploading it to the system. These images can be analysed by date, time, floor level or trade (e.g. electrical, mechanical, civil) and displayed on interactive dashboards giving all stakeholders real-time insights into progress.

Senior Engineering Manager Anthony Butler said the program had increased progress transparency and enhanced collaborative working.

“It enables us to create a visual diary of works being completed and increases our efficiency as we can track delivered works against a digital twin,” he said.
